Method 30B Mercury Sorbent Traps

Method 30B Mercury Sorbent Traps The purpose of Method 30B sorbent traps is to measure total vapor phase mercury (Hg) emissions from coal fired sources. Knowledge of Methods 1, 4, and 5 is recommended. The testing should be done after the stack gas has passed through all pollution control devices, i.e. with a stream that is low in particulates. Method 30B is used to test the accuracy of current vapor phase Hg constant emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) and can also be used to test for the compliance of mercury emissions standards. The method requires a minimum of two simultaneous sampling trains.

RATA Short-Term Traps for 30B Console for Low Mass Emitters (LME)
Custom Spiking Available
These Traps are used in the 30B Console during the RATA. These traps are used for sources with very low levels of mercury where the RATA must be done at 3-4 liters p/min flow.

This option is used at sources with high Acid Gases in the flue gas. When you see breakthrough or spike loss on the traps, it is worthwhile to try this added section.

  • Moisture Resistant – Any trap can be made with a special extra long glass. In wet sources, the extra length of the glass allows for more space for the moisture to evaporate before it hits the sorbent beds. This way the sorbent remains dry.

Customizations for the 30B Sorbent Traps for Moisture Resistant
This option is necessary for stacks that have very high levels of moisture and the client is afraid of direct moisture entrainment wetting the sorbent beds.

  • Coiled Prefilter – Any trap can be made with a coiled prefilter placed inside of the trap before the first plug. The prefilter increases the surface area of the front plug and allows the particulate to evenly distribute itself along the prefilter instead of plugging up the first plug.

This option is necessary for stacks that have very high levels of particulate which plug up the trap after a few days. For sources with high particulate this allows the client to go from just a few days before the traps plug up to 6-7 days.
